Services
The International Offices of the partner universities are the main contact points for incoming students and scholars and are experienced to handle most situations. They will facilitate the administrative tasks of mobility, offer various services and support the incomers in daily problems they may have.
Aalborg Univesitet
At AAU, the International Office is responsible for the many tasks related to servicing and initiation of international cooperation at Aalborg University - particularly in relation to foreign students. As a special service, welcome receptions, local excursions as well as other social activities are organised for foreign students. An introduction course takes place prior to the fall semester, where foreign students among other things are informed about practical matters. Furthermore, the International Office has set up a well functioning contact-person-system which puts the foreign student into contact with a Danish student ("buddy") who - on a voluntary basis - assists the foreign student in settling in and showing him or
her around the university campus, the city centre etc. The buddy ensures a smooth integration into the Danish student life. The International Accommodation Office is responsible for finding accommodation for foreign students.
The Student Union at AAU also offers support for foreign students and, for instance, arranges an "International Evening" every Wednesday at the Student House, where the foreign students can come and meet and socialize with other foreign students or Danish students.
Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH)
TUHH's International Office, the General Advisory Service and the Admissions Office / Department of Student Affairs work closely together in organising a range of activities: An Orientation Programme for International Students is offered prior to the start of lectures each fall semester. Consultation services cover internships, questions of residence, working regulations etc. Students will be given information about their stay at TUHH including an introduction to the university, courses, registration, advisory services.
A special Department for TUHH's International Master's programmes (AOS) is in charge of advisory service and support to international students, treatment of inquiries and applications, information and assistance, visa and residence problems, health insurance. In September and October, the International Office arranges bi-weekly tutorials by specially trained tutors, facilitating orientation and integration of foreign students. These tutors also offer consulting hours, evening meetings devoted to specific countries, excursions and cultural happenings.
TUHH offers a wide range of language courses with levels from beginners to advanced (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Swedish, Chinese, German as a foreign language). Additional courses may be organised.
Social integration activities include intercultural trainings, with the goal to facilitate integration into society and improve contacts between German and foreign students, are arranged on a regular basis. A special counselling service is ready to advice students in any question related to the organisation of studies, and a cultural programme and social activities are organised on a regular basis. Mentorial support is offered, and a standing group of German and international students invites newcomers every second week for activities or simply a chat. The Accommodation Office assists students looking for apartments or roommates.
Universidade de Aveiro
UA's International Office has dedicated International Student Services for exchange and mobility students who take part of their degree programme (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles). The services provided include the issue of a pre-arrival information packet for all students, individual accommodation assistance (with the collaboration of former mobility students who have returned to UA) which guarantees halls of residence for 50% of mobility students and assistance for the remaining students in finding off-campus private accommodation. This office also runs an orientation week day at the beginning of each semester plus a programme of monthly outings to provide an opportunity for European and third country students to learn more about Portuguese society. The International Office also maintains privileged contacts with the organizers of the Courses of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, which are offered free of charge for exchange students, as well as with the international student societies and the students union of the University, which are used to promote student integration into their new, albeit temporary, working and living environment.
